Sens Foundation: Leading the Way in Sustainable E-Waste Recycling and Circular Economy Solutions

2023-06-06 17:02:16

Last year, the private foundation Sens collected 89,960 tonnes of electronic waste through its take-back system. End-of-life devices might thus be dismantled, valuable materials recycled and toxic components properly disposed of.

That’s 10.2 kilos of e-waste per person, Sens said on Tuesday. This figure is down 2% compared to last year, due in particular to a drop in sales of electronic devices following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Among the 90,000 tonnes of waste collected were 37,167 tonnes of household appliances, 30,386 tonnes of electronic appliances, 20,508 tonnes of refrigeration appliances and air conditioners, 3,278 tonnes of light fixtures and 936 tonnes of photovoltaic panels.

Heat pumps and e-cigarettes

In addition, the foundation developed a circular economy platform in 2022 and entered into partnerships for new solutions for heat pumps and electronic cigarettes.

The costs of recycling e-waste are covered by a recycling fee levied on the purchase of a device. The consumer pays nothing when he returns his used device to a collection center or to the store.
