Heavy downpours caused flooding in Lanaken, Bilzen and Riemst on Tuesday evening. The mayor of Lanaken, Marino Keulen (Open Vld), spoke of a downpour with 43 liters of rainwater per m² in one hour.
In Bilzen, the problems are in Lochtstraat, Hoelbeekstraat and Wijngaardstraat, while in Riemst they are in Bolderstraat, Maastrichtersteenweg and in Muizenberg (Kanne). “On Monday, we once more checked all the pipes, all the manholes, all the sludge and all the sand traps, but nothing helped,” explains Mr. Keulen. “The technical service and the fire brigade are very busy.”
Keulen went with alderman Peter Verheyen (Open Vld) to check the situation on the ground.
