Sexually transmitted infections are prevented in the Buen Pastor de Córdoba

The Ministry of Health, through the Provincial HIV/AIDS, STI, Viral Hepatitis and Tuberculosis Program and the Central Laboratory, adheres to the National HIV Test Day that takes place every June 27. This is an opportunity to sensitize the population regarding the importance of performing this test for early detection of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections – STIs-.

Within this framework, this Tuesday tests, counseling and prevention activities for HIV and STIs will be carried out in the Parque de las Tejas, from 3 to 6 pm. It should be noted that this point will be active every business day until 7 July.

In addition, testing and awareness days will be added at the Hospital de Río Tercero – Estanislao del Campo S/N – starting at 10; and at CEPAT in Alta Gracia – Dino Carigniani 140- from 8 to 11.

It should be noted that the test is free and voluntary, and that the results are delivered confidentially. In the event that a test is positive, the team provides the necessary advice and accompaniment.

So far in 2023, 35,086 tests have been carried out in the province, 932 in testing campaigns in health institutions, 4,475 in extramural testing campaigns and 29,679 in medical consultations in health centers in the province.

The importance of taking the test

HIV infection may not show symptoms for a long time, so the only way to know if you have contracted it is through a laboratory test, a blood test that detects the presence of antibodies to this virus.

It is recommended to take the HIV and STI test if you had unprotected sexual intercourse, if you are planning or undergoing a pregnancy (in each trimester) or if you have sexual intercourse with a pregnant person (also, in each trimester of pregnancy). .

According to data from the latest Bulletin on HIV and STIs, in Argentina it is estimated that 140,800 people live with HIV, and of these, 13 percent do not know their diagnosis and almost 33.1 percent of those who do know it do so late way.
