A war that has lasted for almost two years, which broke out following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and a Champions League match. What unites such apparently distant worlds is the story of Dmytro Riznyk, goalkeeper of Shakhtar Donetsk and the Ukrainian national team. Riznyk took to the pitch once morest Porto just eight days following the death of his brother Serhii, who was killed at the age of 34 from wounds caused by a landmine while he was busy on the front, a soldier of the Ukrainian resistance to the invasion. To explain the choice of the goalkeeper, and of the team in general, is the sporting director of Shakhtar Srna: “We take to the pitch to give 90 minutes of positive emotions to the Ukrainian people. But it’s not easy to play in these situations.”
