The Shibutani Siblings, Alex and Maia, are making a stunning return to competitive ice dancing. Alex, 34, expressed their enthusiasm, stating they don’t take this opportunity for granted. He emphasized the valuable experiences and new skills gained during their time away from competition have provided fresh perspectives and exciting possibilities.

The Shibutanis boast an notable record. They secured a bronze medal at the 2011 World Championships, becoming the youngest ice dancers in nearly half a century to achieve a world medal. Further accolades include a silver medal in 2016, a bronze in 2017, and two U.S. national championships.

Their historic achievement at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics remains a landmark moment. They earned bronze medals in both the ice dance and team events, becoming the first athletes of Asian descent – their parents are Japanese – and the only non-white team to win an Olympic ice dance medal.
