Several versions of the anti-diabetic treatment Ozempic will no longer be available in Belgium in the coming weeks and months. Its manufacturer Novo Nordisk informed all doctors, according to Thursday’s edition of Het Laatste Nieuws.
Global demand for this drug is so high that production cannot keep up. The product, which reduces blood sugar levels, is aimed at diabetics but, because it can also help with weight loss, demand for this “wonder drug” has exploded. The one with the strongest dose is unavailable until the end of December, with the other doses temporarily out of stock.

“We are doing everything in our power to increase production,” assures Novo Nordisk. “We work 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”
While waiting for the product to return, doctors will have to look for alternatives for diabetic patients.
