Urgent: Expert Psychologist to Tackle ‘Click Generation’ Issues in Free Webinar – A Breaking News Update
The digital world is woven into the fabric of modern life, but its impact on our mental wellbeing – particularly for young people – is a growing concern. This Thursday, December 4th, a leading Spanish psychologist will deliver a crucial webinar addressing the effects of problematic internet and social media use. This is a breaking news development for anyone interested in understanding and navigating the challenges of the ‘click generation.’
Free Webinar: Understanding the Risks of Problematic Internet Use
The Foundation for Research, Development and Application of Psychology of the Valencian Community (FIDAP), in collaboration with the Official College of Psychology of the Valencian Community (COP) and the Academy of Psychology of Spain, is hosting the fifth edition of its “Meetings at the Foundation” series. This installment will feature Maite Garaigordobil Landazabal, a Specialist in Clinical Psychology and Professor of Psychological Evaluation and Diagnosis at the University of the Basque Country (retired), and a full member of the Academy of Psychology of Spain.
The webinar, titled “Click generation: effects of problematic use of the internet and social networks,” will run from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. online. It’s specifically geared towards registered psychologists and final-year psychology students, but is open to all interested individuals.
Who is Maite Garaigordobil Landazabal? A Lifetime of Research into Wellbeing
Garaigordobil Landazabal isn’t just a theorist; she’s a pioneer in developing practical interventions to support mental health. Her work spans decades and includes the creation of seven intervention programs focused on socio-emotional development in children and adolescents. Notably, she developed a program to prevent and reduce bullying and cyberbullying, a particularly pressing issue in today’s digital landscape, with demonstrably positive results.
Beyond intervention programs, Garaigordobil has designed and validated 38 psychological evaluation instruments, including tools to measure risk of addiction to social networks and the internet. Her prolific output includes 34 books, 75 chapters, and over 200 published articles. She’s consistently ranked among the most influential researchers globally by Stanford University – a testament to the impact of her work.
The Growing Need to Understand Digital Wellbeing – An Evergreen Issue
The timing of this webinar couldn’t be more relevant. While the internet offers incredible opportunities for connection and learning, excessive or problematic use is linked to a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, and social isolation. The rise of social media has also created new challenges, such as the pressure to present a curated online persona and the constant comparison to others. Understanding these risks – and developing strategies for healthy digital habits – is crucial for individuals of all ages.
Garaigordobil’s “Living Happy” program, designed to prevent childhood depression, highlights the proactive approach needed to safeguard mental wellbeing in the digital age. Her research provides a valuable foundation for understanding how to foster resilience and promote positive mental health in a world increasingly dominated by screens.
