After the classics in Wengen and the replacement races in Kitzbühel had to be canceled due to too many corona cases, Flachau stepped in as the organizer. In the first of two slalom races, the Swiss technicians missed the podium. In the first run Daniel Yule with the starting number 1 retired after just a few goals. This means that he will be missing two runs in Sunday’s race.
Aerni with a strong second run
Ramon Zenhäusern finished sixth and was therefore the best Swiss. Behind them, Luca Aerni made for an exclamation point with a strong drive in the second run. With the second-best running time, Aerni made up ten places in the second run and ultimately finished eighth. Tanguy Nef also made a leap forward and finished tenth ahead of Loïc Meillard. Sandro Simonet cannot use the good starting position with rank 8 after the first run. He loses a whopping 13 positions, but with 21st place still gets important World Cup points.
Premiere victory for Feller
In the fifth slalom of the season there is the fifth winner. Manuel Feller, who yesterday was in the limelight after criticizing the slope in Flachau, shows a sporty reaction today. He runs the fastest time and wins a World Cup race for the first time in his career. Behind them, the leader after the first run, Clément Noel, finished second. The podium is completed by another Austrian. Thanks to the third fastest time in the second run, Marco Schwarz made up two places and finished third.
On Sunday the second slalom will take place in Flachau, before the World Cup entourage will head for Kitzbühel for two descents on the Streif next week. The Swiss technicians therefore still have a chance to cause a sensation in Flachau.
