“SMEs are the heart of Swiss innovation”

Last September, Switzerland occupied first place in the ranking of the most innovative countries of the World Intellectual Property Organization for the twelfth consecutive year. A success that hides a basic trend: an overall decrease in research and development (R & D) activity over the past twenty years. This is the observation made by the economists Franz Barjak (Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz), Dominique Foray (EPFL) and Martin Wörter (KOF Economic Research Center of the ETHZ) in a report published on February 11 by the State Secretariat for training, research and innovation (Sefri).
