On Monday, shortly before 11 a.m., the St. Gallen cantonal emergency call center received a report regarding a lifeless woman in a smoke-filled solarium on Grenzstrasse.

The emergency services might only determine that the woman was dead. It was a 48-year-old Ukrainian woman who lived in the Rhine Valley.

An informant reported to the St. Gallen cantonal emergency call center a lifeless, fully clothed woman in a solarium filled with smoke. It is not clear whether she used the solarium beforehand. The solarium contains several individual cabins and can be entered and operated independently during opening hours.

Fire broke out in the cabin

According to current information, the fire broke out in a cabin at an unspecified time. Presumably there was no full fire due to a lack of oxygen in the premises. However, there was heavy smoke development on the ground floor of the property. This was able to be cleared of smoke by the fire department.

The cause of the fire is being clarified by the Forensics Competence Center of the St. Gallen Canton Police under the direction of the St. Gallen Canton Public Prosecutor’s Office. The Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Cantonal Hospital of St. Gallen was commissioned to determine the cause of the woman’s death.
