Smuggled in and sold kilos of cocaine and cannabis? Two men in court in Salzburg

A Turk (47) and a man (40) from Togo, both residing in Salzburg and with no criminal record, were on Thursday in front of a lay judge (presiding: Ilona Schalwich-Mózes) on charges of drug trafficking or contributing to it.

According to the indictment, the Turk smuggled a total of three kilos of cocaine and three kilos of cannabis from the Netherlands to Austria on six procurement trips between October 2016 and March 2022. He is said to have sold 2.7 kilos of the drugs at a profit.

The Togolese, in turn, was accused of having made his apartment available to the Turk as a drug bunker.

The duo only confessed to their own consumption of drugs, which they were also accused of. RA Lukas Höllwerth, the Turk’s defense attorney, emphasized that his client had only procured drugs from the Netherlands twice: “That was a total of 300 grams of cannabis and 15 grams of cocaine. That was for personal use and free of charge for friends and acquaintances”. RA Rémy Horcicka, the African’s lawyer, also emphasized: “He only consumed cannabis. My client has nothing to do with drug trafficking.”

The presiding judge adjourned the jury trial to June 6 to hear more witnesses.
