Thomas Neuwirth, who won the Eurovision Song Contest as Conchita Wurst, learned to sing by listening to the music of Céline Dion, he tells Friday de Volkskrant.
“Dion taught me: you can roar straight ahead, with all the power you have,” says Neuwirth. “If you sing so loudly, you cannot fake: the sound that you squeeze out of your body is the sound of your body, unique and by definition real. Céline Dion has taught me that singing is something physical.”
Neuwirth says he does My Heart Will Go On heard playing in his head when he came out of the closet. “They gave me, as it were, permission to be nice and dramatic over the top to be.”
With the number Rise Like A Phoenix the artist as Conchita Wurst won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014. At the moment he can be seen as a jury member in the first season of the German reality series Queens of Drag.
