Sony Mobile Communications Rus, a subsidiary of the Japanese group, officially hired business activities in the Russian Federation: The company was liquidated on August 11, 2025 according to the Russian register of legal entities. This has ended Sony’s 18 -year presence on the Russian market – since 2006.
Sony’s first steps towards the exit had already been taken in 2023, but an attempt to stop the activities was rejected. After a previously failed attempt to close the business, the liquidation documents were submitted again in October 2024.

After the extensive invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Sony stopped the Playstation deliveries, closed the PlayStation Store and stopped the film distribution and stopped his music business. In 2024, the closure of the brand shops was completed due to storage bottlenecks.
