Microsoft is said to be set to relaunch its Xbox backward compatibility program after two years of silence. More Xbox and Xbox 360 games may therefore soon be playable on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S.
Microsoft first introduced the Backward Compatibility feature on the Xbox One in 2015. So gamers could enjoy games from the original Xbox and Xbox 360 on their Xbox One. The catalog of backward compatible games was gradually growing with new games added regularly. In 2018, Xbox One reached 500 backward compatible games.
However, Microsoft ended this program in June 2019. Since then, Xbox and Xbox 360 games that were not already backward compatible are unplayable on the Xbox One. They are also on les Xbox Series X/S dont the shortage will last until 2022 according to Phil Spencer.
New Xbox and Xbox 360 games have been tested for backward compatibility
Earlier this year, insider Nick Baker aka “@Shpeshal_Nick” claimed that the Xbox Backward Compatibility program was not being abandoned entirely. He just updated this statement. According to Nick Baker, “ it looks like some games have been dataminated, but sometimes OG and 360 games are tested for backward compatibility but not chosen ».
In order not to risk disappointing the fans, Nick Baker preferred not to reveal Xbox and Xbox 360 games list which have been tested for backward compatibility. He nevertheless specifies that there is activity on the side of Microsoft. According to him, we can probably expect an announcement in November.
Gamers can’t wait to bring the greatest Xbox and Xbox 360 classics to life on their Xbox One or Xbox Series X / S. Among the titles most awaited by the community, we find in particular Jet Set Radio Future, Max Payne 3, Binary Domain, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, F.E.A.R. and Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. For the time being, Microsoft hasn’t confirmed anything yet. Even though Nick Baker has an excellent reputation, it’s best to take this news with a grain of salt while waiting for a possible announcement next month.
