South Africa’s Parliament on Thursday evening hailed the avocado export deal with China in a statement, calling it “concrete proof of the immense benefits that the BRICS bring to us and all our partners.”

According to the South African Avocado Growers Association, the three-year average annual production is estimated at 139,400 tonnes, of which 45% is exported to Europe.

With the opening of the Chinese market, South Africa has the opportunity to expand its avocado plantations, which will greatly contribute to the creation of direct on-farm and indirect employment through downstream opportunities, a saluted the Parliament of South Africa.
