South Kivu Launches First Phase of Polio Vaccination Campaign – 1.7 Million Children Targeted

The provincial government of South Kivu launched, on Wednesday March 27, the first phase of routine vaccination once morest polio in the province of South Kivu. A first campaign which aims to reach children in 34 health zones in the province.

It was the interim provincial health minister, Byabagabo Nyamagana, who officially launched this campaign. He indicated the number of children expected.

“For this phase and regardless of their previous vaccination status, the number of children expected to receive their dose of vaccine is estimated at 1,695,874 children, all sexes combined,” said Byabagabo Nyamagana, interim provincial health minister.

For this provincial authority, the persistence of the campaigns is due to the behavior of certain parents who refuse to have their children vaccinated.

“It turns out that this objective has not yet been achieved due unfortunately to the negative attitudes of certain parents who refused to vaccinate their children, thus allowing the virus to continue to threaten the lives of their children,” insisted Byabagabo Nyamagana, interim provincial health minister.

The campaign is door to door and extends over a period of 3 days, notably from March 28 to 30, 2024.
