A fire erupted in a residential vinyl greenhouse in Choweol-eup, Gwangju City, South Korea, at approximately 10:30 a.m. On Sunday, March 15, 2026. The blaze completely destroyed one residential vinyl greenhouse and partially damaged a neighboring storage greenhouse, according to a report from the Joongang Ilbo.
The Gwangju Fire Department stated that the initial report came from a resident who observed black smoke emanating from the property. The resident alerted their family and subsequently contacted emergency services. Firefighters arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire by 11:16 a.m., approximately 46 minutes after the initial call.
The fire consumed the entire residential structure, measuring 132 square meters, and caused partial damage to a storage greenhouse spanning 59.4 square meters. Tools, a pepper drying machine, and household items within both structures were also destroyed, the Joongang Ilbo reported.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The Gwangju Fire Department is currently investigating the cause of the incident.
