Thiruvananthapuram: The opening ceremony of the South Region Inter-University Basketball Tournament 2023-24 was held on November 13 at 2 pm at the Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium, Senate House Campus, University of Kerala. Vice Chancellor of Kerala University Prof. Dr. Mohanan Kunnummal and Association of Indian Universities Observer Ajit Mohan started the colorful ceremony with the hoisting of the flags.
Minister Dr. R. Bindu inaugurated the tournament. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohanan Kunummal presided. Syndicate member and chairman of the organizing committee Adv. Muralidharan welcomed. Arjuna award winner Geethu Anna Jose, the brand ambassador of the fair, was the guest of honour.
Syndicate Members Dr. Shijukhan JS, Prof. PM Radhamani Registrar Prof. Dr. KS Anilkumar, Prof. Dr. Razia K. I, Director Physical Education and Organizing Secretary were present on the occasion. 1200 athletes from 106 universities from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Pondicherry and Telangana will participate in this mega sports event.
The matches will be held at Senate House Campus, Police Stadium, Mar Evans College, LNCPE, Kariyavattam. 68 matches are arranged in four pools tomorrow. The hosts Kerala University will face Alagappa University at 2.30 pm at the Mar Ivanios College Stadium. The University has made all arrangements for accommodation, transportation and medical facilities for the sportspersons and officials arriving to participate in this sports event. The tournament will end on November 18.
