MADRID (AP) — The Spanish soccer federation dismissed Jorge Vilda, the coach of the women’s team, on Tuesday, less than three weeks following the team won the World Cup and amid the controversy generated by the actions of Luis Rubiales, the president of the entity.

Vilda appeared among the group of people who applauded Rubiales when he refused to resign from office due to the wave of criticism due to the kiss on the lips of Jenni Hermoso without her consent during celebrations in Sydney last month.

Rubiales, who also touched his genitals as a vulgar victory gesture following the final, was provisionally suspended by FIFA. The leader is also facing a file opened by the Spanish government in order to remove him from his position.

Vilda was in charge of the senior women’s team for eight years.
