This equates to a 10% increase over the previous year. In total, more than 4 million speeding offenses are observed each year.
“According to the National Road Safety Survey by the Vias Institute, 1 out of 3 Belgians (33%) say they have exceeded the speed limit outside built-up areas during the past month. Followed by speeding on the motorway (31%) and in urban areas (27%)“, specifies Vias.
This Wednesday’s speed control operation also aims to push motorists to slow down. Vias has in fact noted that the number of vehicles in violation decreased by approximately 25% during the announced control days. An average speed drop of 3-7% was also noted.
