Sri Lanka’s interim president declares a state of emergency – Sri Lanka

Colombo – The crisis in Sri Lanka continues to deepen. The previous head of state Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled to the Maldives on Wednesday night, a little later the government declared a state of emergency across the country, and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was appointed interim president. He pushed for a consensus candidate as prime minister and ordered “to restore order”. Demonstrators had previously stormed Wickremesinghe’s official residence despite the curfew.
