It has been raining heavily in Tamil Nadu for the last two days. Stalin wrote to the Center after the Central Meteorological Department failed to issue a warning. The Met Office predicts heavy rainfall, flooding and low pressure. Based on the message received, the government is taking precautionary measures, including relocating people.

However, the Chennai Meteorological Department had warned of heavy rains the previous day. Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpattu districts received light to moderate rainfall. This caused problems, including traffic jams. In the letter, Stalin demanded that the Chennai IMC be expanded to provide accurate information and that steps be taken to do so immediately.
