The Delhi High Court rejected the management committee’s plea to stay the installation of Rani Lakshmi Bai’s statue at the historic Shahi Eidgah Mosque in Mathura. Basically, the court rejected the committee’s request and paved the way for the installation of the statue.
According to Indian media reports, after the decision regarding the land near the Shahi Eidgah, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and MCD officials reached the spot and started the installation of Rani Lakshmibai statue.
According to the report, barricades have been erected around the Eidgah premises and the road has been closed for visitors and tight security arrangements have been made to deal with any situation.
The Delhi High Court said that the Eidgah Committee’s petition is divisive and it is doing communal politics for which it is using the court.

The request of the Delhi Shahi Eidgah Management Committee was initially rejected by a judge of the Delhi High Court. Undeterred, he took his case to another judge of the same court hoping for a better outcome.

The court took issue with the strong language used by the Eidgah Committee in the appeal against the single judge’s decision. He considered the word “rude” and unfair to the judge.
