Stellar Blade: PC Release, Future Platforms & What We Know

by Sophie Lin - Technology Editor

The action title Stellar Blade, initially a PlayStation exclusive, has seen significant success following its release on PC, sparking speculation about a potential expansion to Xbox and Nintendo’s next-generation console. Developer Shift Up is actively exploring broadening the game’s platform availability, signaling a shift towards wider accessibility and laying the groundwork for a long-term franchise.

Launched in April 2024 for the PlayStation 5, Stellar Blade quickly garnered attention for its striking visuals and engaging action gameplay. The game’s arrival on PC via Steam and Epic Games in June 2025, however, proved to be a major turning point. Shift Up didn’t simply port the game; they optimized it for PC, incorporating advanced technologies like NVIDIA DLSS 4 and AMD FSR3, alongside support for ultrawide resolutions and unlocked frame rates. This technical refinement, coupled with the addition of 25 new costumes and an extra boss battle, attracted a new wave of players.

The PC launch was a resounding success, with Stellar Blade reaching over 192,000 concurrent players on its first day, according to Steam data. More than one million copies were sold within the first 24 hours, demonstrating a strong demand beyond the PlayStation ecosystem. The game’s concurrent player count even surpassed other PlayStation-published titles available on PC, including Ghost of Tsushima, God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man, highlighting its appeal to PC gamers.

Now, Shift Up appears poised to capitalize on this momentum. In a recent financial report, the studio revealed It’s “reviewing a platform expansion beyond PS5 and PC” to reach a larger audience, as reported by Meristation. This move suggests that Stellar Blade could potentially land on Xbox Series X|S and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, though no official announcement has been made.

Technical Enhancements and PC Performance

The PC version of Stellar Blade wasn’t just a straightforward port. Shift Up prioritized technical optimization, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to deliver a visually stunning and smooth experience. Support for NVIDIA DLSS 4 and AMD FSR3 allows players to boost performance without sacrificing image quality, whereas ultrawide resolution support and unlocked frame rates cater to enthusiasts with high-finish hardware. The inclusion of new content, like the additional costumes and boss fight, was later rolled out as a free update for PlayStation 5 owners, demonstrating a commitment to supporting the existing player base.

Looking Ahead: Stellar Blade 2 and Beyond

The potential expansion to new platforms isn’t just about increasing sales for the original Stellar Blade; it’s also about building a foundation for the future. Shift Up is currently developing Stellar Blade 2, and the studio views 2026 as a “transitional year” focused on growing the player base and generating anticipation for the sequel, TheGamer reports. A larger global community will be crucial as the franchise evolves.

Shift Up is working on a new flagship title, codenamed “Project Spirits,” in collaboration with Level Infinite (a division of Tencent). Unlike Stellar Blade’s initial focus, Project Spirits is being designed for simultaneous release across consoles, PC, and mobile platforms, emphasizing “global scalability” and technical polish. More details about Project Spirits are expected later this year.

The studio’s recruitment posts also indicate a multiplatform approach for Stellar Blade 2, describing it as a “AAA multiplatform action game” that expands upon the original’s world, according to FandomWire. This suggests a deliberate strategy to move away from platform exclusivity and reach a wider audience.

While the future remains unconfirmed, Shift Up’s recent actions and statements strongly suggest that Stellar Blade’s journey is far from over. The game’s success on PC has opened doors to new possibilities, and fans can anticipate further developments as the studio prepares for the launch of Stellar Blade 2 and the unveiling of Project Spirits.

What comes next for Shift Up and the Stellar Blade universe remains to be seen, but the studio’s commitment to expanding its reach and delivering high-quality gaming experiences is clear. Share your thoughts on the potential for Stellar Blade on Xbox and Switch 2 in the comments below!
