During her short political career, Stephanie Van Houtven was notably president of the Borgerhout district in Antwerp.
She embarked on active politics with the sp.a in 2013 as alderwoman for Culture in Borgerhout. In the middle of the legislature, in 2016, she became district president.
By 2015, she had also become vice-president of the party, alongside then-president John Crombez. It will remain so until 2019.
After the 2018 municipal elections, Stéphanie Van Houtven became an alderman in Borgerhout once more. In 2019, however, she had her farewell to politics.
Less than a year later, Elle learned that she was suffering from cervical cancer.
