Stocks Waver Amid Inflation Data, Major Earnings

U.S. stocks edged higher and bond yields rose after fresh consumer-price data boosted the view that the recent bout of elevated inflation might last longer.

The S&P 500 edged up 0.2% Wednesday, pointing to an extension to the index’s three-day decline. It is down about 0.9% so far this week. The Nasdaq Composite Index opened 0.5% higher, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average added less than 0.1%.
