Street piano removed in half a year Manner violations one after another Hyogo Kakogawa | NHK

“Street pianos” are being installed in local governments and commercial facilities across the country, as they allow anyone to easily come into contact with music and facilitate interactions between performers and passers-by.

On the other hand, there are many cases of complaints regarding the use of pianos.

In 2020, a commercial facility in Nishinomiya City, Hyogo Prefecture installed a piano, but so far there have been complaints such as ‘the sound is too loud’ and ‘I can’t shop calmly’.

We considered removing it for a while, but when we shortened the usage time from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm to 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm, the number of complaints decreased significantly.

Also, at a consumer cooperative store in Sapporo, when a piano was installed in the waiting space near the entrance of the facility in June last year, many complaints were received from customers.

For this reason, a questionnaire was distributed to the customers asking for their approval or disapproval of the piano installation. It means that I made a decision to leave it.
