Vienna – The school closures due to the corona pandemic also had an impact on the reading performance of elementary school students. In the PIRLS study (Progress in International Reading Literacy Study) presented on Tuesday, the results in most of the comparison countries have deteriorated – but not as much as many feared, according to the study authors. In Austria, the students achieved 530 points in PIRLS 2021, compared to 541 in 2016.
