A medical team in the Department of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy at Mansoura Specialized Hospital succeeded in extracting a ring from the esophagus of a 15-month-old girl following she swallowed it while she was playing. The ring got stuck inside the esophageal muscle, causing difficulty swallowing, continuous vomiting, and difficulty breathing.
Dr. Mohamed Eid, Director of Mansoura Hospital, confirmed that a normal x-ray was performed on the child, and it was discovered that there was a foreign body inside the esophageal muscle. The operating room was prepared, where the team made an endoscope and extracted the ring. The girl was discharged two hours following the endoscopy was performed, in a completely good and stable condition.
The hospital director explained that the medical team consists of Dr. Mansour Saqr (pediatric gastroenterologist) and Dr. Ahmed Hamed (anesthesiologist).
Dr. Mohamed Eid added that a successful surgery was performed for a rare case, following the digestive system and endoscopy team at Mansoura Specialized Hospital succeeded in removing and extracting a surgical scalpel from inside the intestines of a 16-year-old girl, using an endoscope and without the need for surgical intervention. The case is in excellent health and was discharged. From the hospital, indicating that the child suffers from a mental illness.
