New Delhi: The Supreme Court has severely criticized the Kerala High Court for banning the sale of Sabarimala Aravana following the presence of pesticides was found in cardamom. The Supreme Court has given permission to destroy 6.65 lakh tin Aravana at Sabarimala following the High Court stopped the sale.

Justices A.S. pointed out that the High Court’s intervention was in a petition filed by a person who did not get the cardamom contract for making the Sabarimala Aravana. Bopanna, P.S. A bench comprising Narasimha termed the High Court’s interference in a matter of commercial interest as vexatious. Although the water of the Ganges may be polluted, many believe that taking a dip in it brings virtue. The bench further held that the prasad is like that and these are part of the beliefs.

On behalf of the central government, Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju argued. The court accepted the Centre’s request to issue guidelines in this regard. The court went on to say that the state government and the Travancore Devaswom Board should jointly destroy Aravana and decide how and where to destroy it.
