Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin said that the cancellation of the sentence of the accused in the Bilkis Banu gang-rape case is welcome. He said the verdict exposes BJP’s duplicity and is a light in dark times. His reference was through X.

While pronouncing the verdict, the Supreme Court had strongly criticized the Gujarat government. The court said that the government is colluding with the accused and distorting the law for political gains. Last day, the Supreme Court issued an order canceling the punishment of the accused. Bilquis Banu responded that following the verdict, she got a chance to smile once more and the verdict helped all other women in the country to maintain faith in justice system.
