Sweden Healthcare Workers Join Fight Against Cholera in Lubumbashi, Haut-Katanga Province

Officials from the Haut-Katanga province received some healthcare workers from the Kingdom of Sweden in Lubumbashi on February 21. Their trip is part of the fight once morest the cholera disease which has been plaguing the main city of the province in recent weeks. The news was confirmed by Kabwe Aimé, chief medical officer of the Kenya zone, who indicated the reception of guests at the cholera treatment center located in the commune of Kenya.

“Today, the toll stands at more than 700 cases, including nearly 260 children, mostly students. We have recorded more than 40 deaths. The arrival of the medical team from Sweden will be able to provide its expertise in patient care. This team was led by the head of UNICEF-Lubumbashi. The delegation was received within the city’s cholera treatment center,” he underlines.

The health zone manager also confided that, at this time, the difficulties relating to the dignified burial of cholera victims remains a problem.

However, the cholera disease treatment center in Lubumbashi has five tents and more than 60 beds.
