Tanja Hüberli and Nina Brunner can still dream of a medal at the Worlds in Tlaxcala, where the 2023 European champions reached the quarter-finals. The second Swiss pair still in the running, Esmée Böbner/Zoé Vergé-Dépré, were however eliminated in the round of 16.

Seeded no. 7, Hüberli/Brunner won 21-17 27-25 in front of the Americans Julia Scoles/Betsi Flint to pick up their 5th success in 5 matches on Mexican sand. The Zougoise and the Schwyzoise dismissed 4 equalizing points at one set everywhere before passing the shoulder on their 3rd match point.

Fourth at the 2019 World Championships in Hamburg, Hüberli/Brunner will face another American duo, Kristen Nuss/Taryn Kloth, on Friday evening for a place in the last four. They are 2 victories away from a medal which would be the 1st in history for Swiss women’s beach volleyball.

Esmée Böbner/Zoé Vergé-Dépré eliminated

Esmée Böbner/Zoé Vergé-Dépré did not have the shadow of a chance Thursday evening in the round of 16. They were clearly dominated 21-14 21-11 by the Canadians Melissa Humana-Paredes/Brandie Wilkerson, seeded no. 4 in the table.
