(Keystone-ATS) The National Council took up the matter on Wednesday by 129 votes to 61 on the internment of minor murderers. The left tried in vain to oppose it. The Council of States has already given the green light to this tightening desired by the Federal Council.

The draft provides that internment only applies to people who have committed a murder following the age of 16 and who, at the end of the sentence or measure under juvenile criminal law, present a risk serious regarding committing another assassination. The internment of minors must be possible, even if it is delicate. The regulations are formulated in a very restrictive manner, noted Vincent Maître (C/GE) for the commission.

The current system is balanced. It is aimed at therapy and its success rate is very high. There is no need for revision, Florence Brenzikofer (Vert-es/BL) argued in vain. And he added that it is not possible to predict during adolescence what a young person’s future will be.

The debates continue with a detailed examination of the project.
