Swiss Success and European Records: Paris, Oslo Diamond League Recap

2023-06-15 20:42:37

Recently in Paris, Tentoglou had deprived Ehammer of a first success for two centimeters. The Swiss therefore took a nice revenge in the Norwegian capital.

Before Ehammer, only Swiss women had been able to win the Diamond League. Ajla del Ponte (in Monaco and Stockholm in 2020 over 100m), Léa Sprunger (in Birmingham in 2018 over 400m hurdles) and Nicole Büchler (in Stockholm in 2017 in the pole vault) had succeeded.

1500m European record

Norwegian Olympic 1500m champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen (22) broke his own European record for the distance. He ran in 3’27”95, improving by 0”37 his previous record achieved in the Olympic final in 2021 in Tokyo.

The Norwegian Olympic champion Karsten Warholm achieved the 4th best time in the history of the 400m hurdles in 46”52 for his comeback. Warholm, world record holder since a legendary Olympic final in Tokyo in 2021 (45”94) crushed the race on Thursday starting very strong, as usual, to achieve the second best time of his career. He thus regains his best level following having had a lackluster season in 2022, due to a hamstring injury (only 7th at the Worlds, European champion).
