Patricia (44) from the canton of Aargau is one of the 19,000 people who had to be evacuated on Saturday due to the devastating forest fires on the Greek island of Rhodes. “We spent the night in a gym,” she says to 20 minutes. After the alarm went off, she and her husband had to leave the hotel with the other tourists as quickly as possible.

“We were then taken to the gym in buses. We were only allowed to take a small bag with the essentials, »reports the 44-year-old. She neither knows whether she will be allowed to go back to the hotel nor whether she will ever see her things there once more. “The mood is tense, but people are keeping calm and waiting for further action.” They will be provided with sufficient food and drinks there. Nevertheless, the Swiss would like to go home as soon as possible. “Today, however, there was no flight back.” (eve)
