Switzerland’s Vehicle Registration: A 1.2% Increase in Road Motor Vehicles Excluding Mopeds; Electric and Hybrid Car Market Grows

Neuchâtel (awp/ats) – A total of 6,445,100 road motor vehicles (excluding mopeds) were registered in Switzerland at the end of September. The increase compared to last year is 76,500 vehicles or 1.2%.

Three quarters of them are passenger cars, the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) announced on Thursday. Their fleet increased by 39,600 units or 0.8% compared to last year to reach 4,760,800 vehicles.

The share of electric passenger cars increased from 2.3% to 3.3% in 2023 compared to the previous year, that of hybrid vehicles from 6.0% to 7.6%. The largest segment of the fleet remains made up of gasoline cars (62%) and diesel cars (26.8%).
