Part-time employment often turns into a full-fledged job

St. Pölten (OTS) – “Not only does the ÖVP want to cut unemployment benefits for unemployed people, they also want to eliminate the opportunity to earn a little extra money,” says Martina Kerschbaumer, head of the department for one-person businesses at the Social Democratic Business Association (SWV) Lower Austria, annoyed. “Both are simply not acceptable.”

On the one hand, unemployment benefit is an insurance benefit and a right, but on the other hand, the elimination of additional income has not been fully thought out: “In one-person businesses and small businesses, marginal employment is often an important entry point into the company. Part-time employment can be built upon and become an employment relationship with more hours.”

“The ÖVP has the goal that ‘everyone who can work has full-fledged employment’, as it says in the Austrian plan, but here an important door is simply slammed shut. Not every small business can afford full-time employees right from the start. That’s why both sides – employers and employees – are happy regarding this option. We are once morest this ill-conceived plan and will work to ensure that it doesn’t happen!” says Kerschbaumer.
