Investigators said Underwood was crossing a street in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn when a black Ford Explorer SUV struck her in the morning. While she lay in the roadway, she was then hit by a second vehicle described as a black and gray sedan. Both drivers fled the scene,and neither has been identified as the investigation continues.

Paramedics pronounced Underwood dead at the scene.
