Angkas Founder George Royeca Speaks Out After License Revocation
George Royeca, founder of the popular motorcycle ride-hailing platform Angkas, recently faced a significant setback when his driver’s license was revoked by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) following a traffic obstruction incident on February 2nd in Cainta, Rizal.
Royeca, who publicly apologized and surrendered to authorities, recently sat down with Archyde to discuss the incident and its impact on him and Angkas.
Archyde: George, thank you for taking the time to speak with us. This incident has certainly dominated the headlines. How are you feeling in the wake of the LTO’s decision?
George Royeca: It’s a arduous time, to be honest.I deeply regret the disruption our motorcade caused, and I take full responsibility for the actions of the Angkas riders involved. The LTO’s decision, while deserved, is a heavy blow, especially given my role in the company and myupcoming bid for public office.
Archyde: You’ve publicly apologized and surrendered to the LTO. What specific steps are you taking to address the situation and regain the public’s trust?
George Royeca: Firstly, we’re fully cooperating with the LTO’s inquiry and taking appropriate disciplinary action against the riders who participated in the unauthorized motorcade. We’re also re-emphasizing the importance of road safety and traffic regulations to our entire rider network. We want to demonstrate that Angkas is committed to being a responsible member of the community.
Archyde: Some argue that this incident raises concerns about the behavior of ride-hailing drivers in general. What’s your response to these concerns?
George Royeca: I understand these concerns. Ride-hailing platforms like ours rely on the trust of the public. We have a responsibility to ensure our drivers operate ethically and safely. This incident, while involving a specific group, necessitates a deeper review of our policies and training programs to strengthen accountability and reinforce safe driving practices across the board.
Archyde: As you no, this incident occurs during your campaign for a seat in the House of representatives. How will you address the potential impact on your candidacy?
George Royeca: This is undoubtedly a challenge. I believe in openness and accountability, which is why I’ve acknowledged my role in this incident. I will continue to campaign openly and honestly, focusing on the issues that matter most to the Filipino people. I hope that my commitment to public service and my efforts to address this situation will demonstrate my genuine desire to serve the community.
Archyde: what message do you want to leave with the readers of Archyde?
