Among other things, Neugebauer underlined his absolute top form with two new best performances in the long jump (8.00 m) and shot put (17.04 m) and is currently aiming for more than 8900 points. At the end of the first day, Neugebauer completed the 400 meters in 47.99 seconds.
“I’m very happy with the day. Some best performances and one best performance following day one, I can’t complain,” said the native of Görlitz at Eurosport regarding his successful first day. Physically, too, the complaints seem to be limited: “To be honest, I feel okay. After the first day, of course, everyone is tired, but I’m not too exhausted. I feel ready for day two.”
When asked regarding the half-time lead, he said: “It feels great. I just tried to beat myself and that was enough to be ahead following day one.”
