Ben affleck: It’s definitely a balancing act.We’ve always prioritized shielding our kids from the more sensationalist aspects of the media. Jennifer and I have a good system.We try to offer our kids a healthy viewpoint when stories pop up in the tabloids. We are in the trenches together when it comes to parenting. I think it’s great that we have a good partnership in that area for our kids.

But the biggest thing, realy is that the media frequently enough simplifies the truth. It’s much less dramatic and more everyday, like figuring out life and relationships. The divorce was its own thing. But as far as how much the spotlight played a part? People will have to make their own judgment on that.

Ben Affleck: Look, I’m not going to let it dictate my life. I’m often photographed just doing what I do, whether that’s getting coffee or taking my kids somewhere. I am fine with that. Ultimately, these are all superficial things, and I just want to live. I’m not trying to be anyone else.

Reflections on the Batman Era

Evelyn Reed: Shifting to your career, you’ve shared your thoughts on your time as batman. Looking back, what were the biggest challenges in bringing that character to life?

Ben Affleck: I really enjoyed the prospect to play an older Bruce Wayne. It was a vision I enjoyed, but I think it wasn’t the right approach for a lot of people. I remember my son being scared to watch the movie. And that told me we had an audience problem. And then there was an issue with vision between the filmmaker and the studio. The end result wasn’t what I wanted.

Evelyn Reed: It sounded like you also went through some personal struggles at the time? Did that affect the experience?

ben Affleck: Oh yeah,I had my personal struggles along with a few other “significant failings.” It was a rough time for me. It certainly did affect my work and my ability to feel good at work, and it wasn’t a good combination. I now have a few regrets, but thankfully, it’s all in the past.

Evelyn Reed: One final thought. What would you like your legacy to be?

ben Affleck: I’d ultimately want people to remember that I had good intentions. I’ve made mistakes, but I’ve tried my best to be authentic. I want my kids to be proud of me. To be honest, I prefer that people focus more on my work and what I’ve accomplished. That way,a part of me will always be around.
