In an exclusive interview with Archyde, comedian nunung opens up about her challenging journey following drug rehabilitation and the added financial strain brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite these obstacles, she shares her remarkable story of resilience and adaptation.
hardship and rehabilitation (2019)
Archyde: Your journey has been marked by significant challenges, especially in 2019. Could you tell us more about that period?
Nunung: 2019 was a tough year for me. I was arrested for drug-related charges, and my husband and I were sentenced to rehabilitation. It was a wake-up call for me, but the process was difficult. I had to sell some of my assets to cover living expenses because I wasn’t earning any income during that time.
pandemic Downturn
Archyde: Upon completion of your rehabilitation, you faced another major challenge with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. How did this health crisis further impact your situation?
Nunung: After rehab, I was optimistic about getting back to work, but then the pandemic hit. The entertainment industry took a massive blow, which meant no job opportunities for me. Selling some of my assets became a necessity to survive. It’s upsetting, but I’m lucky to have had something to sell to provide for my family.
Medical Needs and Travel Burdens
Archyde: We understand that you frequently travel between Jakarta and Solo for medical treatments. How have these recurring expenses affected your financial situation?
Nunung: Yes, my medical needs require regular trips to Jakarta, which adds to my expenses. All my doctors – psychiatrists, specialists, etc. – are based there. It’s a necessary cost for my health, but it doesn’t make it easier on my finances.
Archyde: Your story is a testament to resilience. Given your experiences, what advice would you give to other industry professionals facing similar challenges?
Nunung: I’d tell them to stay strong and adaptable. Life throws unexpected challenges, and it’s crucial to find creative ways to overcome them. For me, selling assets was a tough decision, but it kept my family afloat when times were tough.
