The Saudi technical team concerned with reopening the Saudi embassy in Syria has arrived in the capital, Damascus, in implementation of the Kingdom’s decision to resume work in its diplomatic mission.
And the Saudi Press Agency, “SPA”, stated that the Saudi technical team, headed by Minister Plenipotentiary Ghazi bin Rafi Al-Anzi, met with Assistant Syrian Foreign Minister Ayman Sousan, and Chief of Protocol at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Anfwan Nabeeb, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Damascus.
During the meeting, the head of the Saudi team expressed his thanks to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for the welcome and hospitality the team received and facilitating access procedures, while Soussan expressed their welcome, readiness and readiness to provide all facilities and support to facilitate the mission of the Saudi team, according to “SPA”.
This step represents a clear shift in the way the Saudi Foreign Ministry deals with the Syrian situation, following Saudi Arabia took the initiative to withdraw its ambassador from Damascus in 2012, following calling on the Saudi monarch at the time, Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, to “end the bloodshed in Syria.”
The visit of Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan to Damascus last April represented a clear change in the Kingdom’s policy towards Syria, as it was considered the first visit of its kind in more than a decade, which came following the visit of Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Al-Miqdad to Riyadh.
