Breaking: KBO, KBSA & Myongji College Launch 2025 Baseball Umpire Training – A Path to the Diamond
Seoul, South Korea – October 9, 2023 – In a move to bolster the ranks of qualified officials, the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), the Korea Baseball Softball Association (KBSA), and Myongji College have jointly announced the ‘2025 Baseball Judgment Training Course.’ This is breaking news for aspiring umpires and a significant development for the future of Korean baseball. The demand for skilled umpires is steadily rising alongside the sport’s popularity, making this training opportunity particularly timely.
Two Paths to the Plate: General & Professional Courses
The comprehensive training program, beginning at Myongji College, is structured into two distinct courses designed to cater to different experience levels. Process I (General Course) is geared towards individuals aged 19 and over with a passion for baseball and a desire to learn the art of officiating. This intensive course spans 10 weeks, totaling 160 hours of instruction delivered through a combination of weekday evening, weekend, and Sunday classes.
For those already involved in baseball officiating, Process II (Professional Course) offers a more focused, 64-hour program spread over five weeks, conducted on Saturdays and Sundays. This course is specifically designed for members of the KBSA, including representatives from regional baseball associations (Little Baseball Federation, Women’s Baseball Federation, etc.) and those with existing officiating experience.
A Growing Need for Qualified Umpires: Beyond the Game
The increasing professionalism of the KBO and the expanding grassroots participation in baseball across Korea are driving the need for highly trained umpires. But the benefits of becoming a baseball umpire extend beyond simply being part of the game. Officiating develops crucial skills like quick decision-making under pressure, conflict resolution, and a deep understanding of the rules – qualities valuable in any career path. It’s a fantastic opportunity for individuals seeking a unique and rewarding challenge.
Application Details & Important Dates
A total of 150 students will be accepted – 100 for Process I and 50 for Process II. An exciting incentive is offered to high-performing graduates of Process I: the opportunity to receive battery training (for those without disqualifying factors).
