The big ITV soap crossover is set to take place next year as Coronation Street and Emmerdale join forces
Emmerdale fans think the crossover with Coronation Street will kickstart a reunion for two characters in the village.
Ahead of ITV budget cuts next year that will change the broadcasting pattern of the two soaps, Emmerdale and Coronation Street will merge for one night only in a ‘mash-up’ of our two favourite communities.
For the first time in British soap history, the hour-long episode will see characters from both soaps come together in a celebration of the soap genre.
Each soap will then return to its new normal pattern of transmission – 30 minutes each evening – Emmerdale episodes at 8pm, and Coronation Street episodes at 8.30pm on ITV1 and STV.
Corrie’s Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) and Emmerdale’s Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) have been confirmed as the first two characters to be part of the special episode.
Danny himself teased: “I am made up that Aaron is in the Corriedale episode. Originally from Manchester, Coronation Street has always been an iconic show in our house just as much as Emmerdale. So to cross them both over is a great idea.
“The night shoots have been full on with having young kids but a lot of fun and it’s been great working with the Corrie team.
“I can’t wait to see how the episode plays out with the separate storylines from both Emmerdale and Corrie.
“It’s going to be epic and every soap fan’s dream.”
Now, some fans of Emmerdale are hoping that a “Robron” reunion will take place around the crossover. Robert Sugden returned to the village earlier this year to win back ex-husband Aaron Dingle.
However, with Aaron choosing to wed John Sugden their romance was put on hold. That was until John’s harrowing list of crimes was finally exposed and he fled the country.
Viewers have been patiently waiting for Robert and Aaron to come together again, but the introduction of Robert’s prison husband Kev Townsend has proven to be yet another obstacle.
On X (formerly known as Twitter), @laurenmalone151 asked: “So when do we think Robron reunion 3.0 will happen then? I’m thinking either Christmas time or around the Robron reunion 2.0 anniversary in February..”
@joannes61500522 replied: “If the rumours are correct I’m hoping either in or just after Corriedale episode” as @primrosebbull added: “This is what i’m thinking… there is a chance before john rears his ugly head in the crossover or in feb”.
Another viewer, @ktd1974 wrote: “Christmas would be way too soon with everything currently going on and with the crossover episode, which might feature John, taking place in January, I would say it’ll be a little while after that”.
