Yesterday, Thursday, the General Sports Authority organized a Sports Day initiative for People of Determination, in cooperation with the Dubai Police General Command, the Emirates Down Syndrome Association, the Emirates Foundation for Ambulance Services, the host Al Nasr Sports Club, Huawei and MENA Labs.
The event comes within the framework of the authority’s keenness to enhance the community sports culture, and to seek partnership with other sectors in line with government strategies aimed at supporting people of determination, and to take measures to involve them in sports activities and contribute to their empowerment and inclusion in society.
The event was attended by Sheikh Suhail bin Butti Al Maktoum, Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at the General Sports Authority, Dr. Manal Jarour, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Down Syndrome Association, and Jerry Liu, CEO of Huawei.
About 50 participants from all emirates of the country participated in the “Sports Day” initiative, who competed in football, basketball, bocce, table tennis, fitness, and group aerobics.
Sheikh Suhail Al Maktoum said: “The authority is keen to consolidate the social value of sport by launching several initiatives aimed at encouraging all groups and members of society to practice sport, in line with the directives of our wise leadership aimed at making sport one of the most prominent features of Emirati society, and consolidating the pillars of a distinguished sports community. Contributes to strengthening the state’s presence in international forums.
He added: “The initiative reflects the authority’s keenness to provide more community support, especially for people of determination, to strengthen their will and enhance their presence in the sports sector.”
Dr. Manal Jaarour said: “Such initiatives effectively contribute to achieving the inclusion of people of determination in cultural, public and sports life, which achieves the vision of the wise leadership and the objectives of the national policy for people of determination.”

The General Department of Administrative Affairs in Dubai Police organized a dialogue session entitled “Intellectual Property for Youth: Innovation for a Better Future”, in conjunction with the World Intellectual Property Day, which falls on April 26, during which it discussed encouraging innovation and creativity among the young generation, and the importance of introducing the generation to registering their intellectual property and their innovations in order to preserve them and financially benefit from them.
The session was hosted by First Lieutenant Assistant Expert Abdullah Al Bastaki, a biological and DNA expert, in the General Department of Forensic Evidence and Criminology at Dubai Police, Zahra Al Rajabi, Executive Director of Intellectual Property Data Company, and lawyer Ahmed Zaza from Al Tamimi and Associates.
At the beginning of the session, lawyer Ahmed Zaza spoke regarding the role of local and regional intellectual property offices in creating a legal and political environment for young entrepreneurs to preserve and benefit from their innovations, while providing an explanation on the definition of intellectual property for intangible assets such as the names and trademarks of companies and others.
For her part, Zahra Al-Rajbi reviewed a working paper entitled “How can intellectual property rights support tomorrow’s youth in creating a better future?”, during which she emphasized that young people are the engine of advancement and progress in societies and they must be made aware of the importance of intellectual property and register their innovations.
For his part, First Lieutenant Assistant Expert Abdullah Al Bastaki spoke regarding the “invention of the male DNA fingerprint for Dubai Police” and the measures taken by the Dubai Police General Command to document and register it as a patent with the World Patent Organization (WIPO).

The General Command of Dubai Police, represented by the General Administration for Anti-Narcotics, thwarted, in a proactive operation, the smuggling of a ton and 56 kilograms of crystal drug, with a market value of 68 million and 640,000 dirhams, and arrested the ten accused of different nationalities, following careful follow-up and monitoring by the anti-narcotics men. Major General Al-Mansoori added: “We were able to uncover the gang members’ attempt to smuggle solar panels hidden inside the crystal drug, and in order to control the entire gang formation, the police began monitoring the movements of the first suspect following receiving the shipment through one of the state’s ports until we reached the rest of the nine suspects.”

Once once more outside the country, and following identifying the rest of the accused, we prepared a court plan and arrested the ten accused with 1,637,640 dirhams in their possession.
Brigadier Eid Hareb indicated that the crystal drug was hidden in the 264 solar panels, in an attempt by the gang to camouflage and introduce narcotics into the country.
