Girona-Real Sociedad, silence on the scoreboard, noise on the field | Soccer | Sports
First Girona dominated, then Real Sociedad. But there was no way to break the silence on the scoreboard. An insufficient 0-0 for Girona in their head-to-head fight with Real Madrid for the title, also for Real Sociedad, which has only won one of its last seven games in the League. It was not insufficient for football. A match as fun as it was intense, which ended with Míchel in the locker room early and with the red and whites pointing to the VAR following a goal once morest Yangel Herrara was disallowed in the first half for offside.

If the Premier sneaks onto television around the world by creating an authentic Super League, full of superstars and super coaches, Spain keeps two treasures without so much noise or glamour: one, in San Sebastián; the other, in Girona. And when they meet, the result cannot be other than a match as electric as it is tactical, essentially well played. From the outset, La Real showed their fangs. As soon as Girona let the ball roll, Imanol’s boys came out gunned down to bite the red and whites. Míchel accepted the one-on-one duel across the entire field that Imanol had devised. In exchange, to avoid the overwhelming pressure of Real, Girona opted for the mobility of Portu instead of Stuani to replace the sore Dovbyk.
Not even Odriozola’s injury, when the duel was taking its toll, made Real back down. Neither does the work that accumulates in his legs, leader of the group in the Champions League (PSG expects it in the round of 16), in the semifinals of the Cup (Mallorca expects it), clinging, in any case, to the Europa League places in the league. But Real never runs out of gas. And Girona tried, always with the ball as a knife. However, although Yangel Herrera and Aleix García managed to stop the mobile and elusive Oyarzabal and Brais Méndez, Girona had a hard time breaking the Txuri-Urdin defence. In fact, it took until the 15th minute to find Remiro following a direct foul from Tsygankov.
There was no noise in the goals, but on the field. Girona and Real shared the fast pace, but it was the rojiblancos who took over the game. So, faced with Girona’s precision in speed, Real had no choice but to stop the red and whites with fouls (14 in the first half; 19 in total). It was, as almost always, Savinho who lifted up the dedicated Girona fans in Montilivi. A beautiful play by the winger ended with the ball in the net following Yangel Herrera’s tackle. However, following following the advice of the VAR, the referee disallowed the midfielder’s goal for an offside that had occurred 37 seconds earlier. The same luck, in any case, took Oyarzabal’s goal following Gazzaniga’s poor clearance.
La Real was not willing to get carried away in Montilivi. At least, Imanol was not going to make it easy for Míchel. After passing through the locker room, Real not only bit into the Girona field but also stood with the ball near Gazzaniga’s area. The ball had already changed owners in Montilivi. But the duel did not slow down. And while Imanol had already made three changes when the clock showed 52 minutes, Míchel let more than an hour pass to shake up the eleven: Pablo Torre and Stuani for Iván Martín and Portu. New plan from the coach, now without the ball as a compass, because now he wanted a classic 9 like Stuani.
The Uruguayan did not appear, although Remiro did appear to silence Yangel Herrera once more. Before, in the other goal, Gazzaniga had excelled once morest Brais Méndez. After Barrenetxea scared and frightened the red and white defense, at the end of the duel it was Yan Couto, also on the wing, who attacked the Real area. There was no case. Neither for Real nor for Girona.
Míchel’s men have no choice but to pray to Simeone while waiting to visit Real Madrid next week, the only team they lost to in the League, the only team, also, that they are ahead of in the table.

The Japan Mobility Show (formerly the Tokyo Motor Show) currently being held at the Tokyo International Exhibition Center will be open to the public from the 28th. At this exhibition, Japanese car companies showed a new attitude of accelerating development in the field of electric vehicles.
The Japanese government plans to realize that all new cars sold in the country will be electric vehicles by 2035, so various pure electric vehicles have become new products that various car companies are competing to display. There are many highlights among the exhibits of Japanese car companies, but many new models are still in the “concept” stage.
The “Nihon Keizai Shimbun” editorial pointed out that Japan started late in the field of pure electric vehicles, and it is difficult to say that Japan is leading the world in software fields such as artificial intelligence. Companies must make those next-generation technologies practical and catch up with the world’s leading pace in this field.
At the exhibition, Toyota Motor Corporation launched a number of concept models of next-generation pure electric vehicles, including SUVs, sports cars, minivans, and Lexus sedans. According to on-site staff, Toyota’s next-generation pure electric vehicles will use higher energy density lithium-ion batteries and have a driving range of up to 1,000 kilometers.
In Toyota’s pure electric vehicle development plan, 10 pure electric vehicles will be launched on the market by 2026, with a global annual sales target of 1.5 million vehicles, and 30 electric vehicles will be launched by 2030, with annual sales further increasing to 3.5 million vehicles. In order to accelerate the development of pure electric vehicles, Toyota is also developing several types of vehicle batteries.
In addition to exhibiting the FE electric formula racing car, Nissan Motor Company also launched 5 pure electric concept cars, including high-performance supercars, urban multi-purpose vehicles, multi-purpose vehicles, etc. Nissan announced in February this year that it will accelerate its electrification strategy and plans to launch 27 electric vehicles by 2030.
Honda Giken Industrial Co., Ltd. has more “electric shock” products, and one of the most popular exhibits is the electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) known as the “Flying Car”. Although people are used to calling it a “car”, in fact, eVTOL is closer to a helicopter in terms of appearance and function. This future mobile tool under development is expected to be widely used in various scenarios such as urban mobility, sightseeing, disaster rescue, first aid, and logistics.
In addition, other Japanese car companies are also trying to make a difference in the field of electric vehicles. Subaru showcased a concept model of a pure electric sports car. Suzuki, which is good at making small cars, exhibited a concept version of a pure electric light truck, which is both practical and simple and stylish.

North Salem Dominates Pawling in Class C Field Hockey Quarterfinals: A 6-0 Victory
2023-10-24 04:16:08
North Salem beat Pawling 6-0 in Class C quarterfinal field hockey
North Salem beat Pawling 6-0 in a Section 1 Class C quarterfinal field hockey game at North Salem Oct 23, 2023.
NORTH SALEM — History is said to repeat itself.
That’s certainly true.
But not always.
Nine days earlier, in a driving rain, the Pawling and North Salem field hockey teams battled to a 1-1 tie.
So, a close game seemed to be in the offing when the two faced each other in the Section 1 Class C quarterfinals Monday, despite North Salem holding the No. 3 seed and Pawling seeded sixth.
But seeding trumped history and in a big way.
North Salem, which had outplayed Pawling in the earlier meeting (it had an 18-2 penalty-corner advantage) but mightn’t find the net, had no trouble doing so Monday.
Enjoying a 13-1 penalty-corner advantage, North Salem romped to a 6-0 win.
The senior-heavy home squad, whose performance in the previous meeting was probably not helped by the fact it was playing its sixth game in eight days, didn’t allow a single shot on its keeper, Allegra Delli Carpini, Monday.
In fact, it rarely let Pawling get within shouting distance of Delli Carpini, nonetheless shooting distance.
What it means
The loss dropped Pawling’s season mark to 6-7-2.
North Salem, now 12-4-1, will play at No. 2 Irvington Thursday in the Class C semifinals.
Key plays
Monday, North Salem broke on top 2-0 early with two goals late in the first quarter.
Molly Videla had the game’s initial score. With 2:13 left in the quarter, she essentially one-timed a pass from Anna Fetterolf.
Fetterolf, who finished with a hat trick and two assists, had the next goal off a penalty corner and an Abby Cassidy assist.
Pawling was able to keep the score 2-0 until the third quarter, in part because of Veronica Webber’s strong defensive play and some luck with Brady Ellicott’s second-quarter shot being deflected just wide of the cage.
But Fetterolf put in a rebound off a penalty corner shot early in the third quarter before North Salem expanded its lead to 4-0 on another penalty corner as Sophia Aversano unleashed a laser from the top of the circle. Fetterolf had the assist.
Videla then recorded her second goal, beating Pawling keeper Ava Riina low off another penalty corner with Ellicott assisting.
Riina had 15 saves. She was especially strong in the fourth quarter. She came out to challenge on a potential 1-on-0, knocking the ball away from a North Salem player before stopping a high, hard shot moments later.
But she had no answer for Fetterolf, who scored her final goal and the game’s final goal soon following, getting by a couple of defenders to go straight in on Riina before lifting the ball high into the back of the cage.
They said it
Coach Rob Walters, whose young Pawling team included only four seniors, two of them defensive starters, expressed pride in how his team performed and improved this season.
He had special praise for the junior Webber, a midfielder who started playing field hockey just last year but had a strong second season with eight goals and three assists and a strong defensive contribution.
Walters called her defensive effort Monday, which included multiple steals and a few interceptions, “fantastic.”
North Salem coach Jen Frohman expressed pride in her team for “coming out strong.”
She and Fetterolf both attributed part of the previous 1-1 tie to North Salem playing its sixth game in eight days at the time.
“We were all mentally and physically tired from it,” said Fetterolf.
She pointed to North Salem as having superior stick skills to Pawling, which allowed it to control and move the ball for the majority of the time.
But she said there was also a bigger reason her team won.
“We have so much heart. We wanted it so badly. We put everything into it,” she said, indicating she and her team’s other seven seniors wanted to continue playing.
The junior Aversano noted North Salem won the section title and made it to the state Final 4 two years ago.
“We know what it’s like to go all the way. It’s one of a kind,” she said.
Up next
North Salem will be the underdog Thursday once morest Irvington, which it didn’t play during the regular season, and it will be the underdog once more in the final if it beats Irvington and faces, as seems likely, Putnam Valley, which beat it twice in the regular season.
But Aversano doesn’t seem to think of her squad as an underdog to anyone.
“I think we can go as far as we allow ourselves to go,” she said.
