FC Barcelona claimed their second win of the 2024-2025 LaLiga EA Sports season after beating Athletic Club 2-1 on Saturday in their first match at the Estadi Lluys Companys, where they left a good impression against an opponent who continues to be denied as a visitor by the Blaugranas. Hansi Flick had a good official debut with Barça. After the setback in the Joan Gamper Trophy against AS Monaco, on this occasion his team was at a good level and enjoyed the best chances against the Copa del Rey champions, who tried to hold on supported by the desire of Nico Williams, booed without much noise by the ‘culer’ fans, and the actions of Alex Padilla, but who ended up giving in to the third league goal from a Robert Lewandowski who seems to recover his best scoring form. The final 2-1 did not come until the 75th minute, although the home team perhaps deserved it earlier. Almost always, under the baton of Pedri, the new starting eleven compared to Mestalla, and the work of Raphinha, they gave the impression of controlling the game, especially in the second 45 minutes when Ernesto Valverde’s men were much more dominated and had a much harder time deploying towards Marc-André ter Stegen’s area. And the game also started with the Blaugrana dominating against an orderly Athletic Club that knew how to hold their rival well from the start, as well as threatening as much as possible with Nico Williams. There were not too many chances on either side and it was Barça who struck first with the goal of the other ‘pearl’ on the pitch, Lamine Yamal. The winger drew up his classic left-footed play on the edge of Padilla’s area until he found the space to strike. Íñigo Lekue put his head in and made it impossible for his goalkeeper. Nico Williams was close to responding to his friend’s goal, but the 1-0 did not change the scenario too much, although Flick’s team had more chances to run on the counterattack because Athletic tried to take a step forward. Thus, Lewandowski warned with a powerful cross shot, but the woodwork denied him the goal for the first time. And when the final stretch was reached, Pau Cubarsí, in a possible excess of impetus, brought down Alex Berenguer and the VAR warned Gil Manzano, who did not hesitate to decree the penalty that Oihan Sancet converted into 1-1. LEWANDOWSKI RIGHT Neither Flick nor Valverde changed anything during the break. But FC Barcelona came out determined and dominant, with Pedri taking charge and now turning his game to the left because Yamal had lost some ‘punch’. Lekue suffered on that side and the main problems for the visitors came from that side. Lewandowski hit the woodwork again after a good header that did not wake up Athletic Club, with Nico Williams also less effervescent against the physical power of Jules Koundé. Even so, almost all the danger of the ‘Lions’ came when the winger got the ball, although he lacked finding a teammate, with his brother Iñaki not participating much. The Blaugrana team continued to insist on feeding their Polish scorer, who was relishing the goal when he hit a cross from the left, but who did not count on a great action of reflexes and agility from Padilla, who prevented the 2-1. However, he could not do so when the match entered its final stretch, in another cross from the left, this one from the omnipresent Pedri. The goalkeeper got his hand out and the ball fell once again to Lewandowski, who this time made no mistake to score his third league goal of the season and secure victory because Athletic lacked arguments for a draw and extended their away win against the ‘culers’ to 24 years. Colombia prepares to declare a civic day if its team wins the Copa America
Bogota.-In an atmosphere of enthusiasm for the advancement of the Colombian National Team to the final of the Copa América, the governor of Valle, Dilian Francisca Toro, and the mayor of Cali, Alejandro Eder, announced the possible declaration of a civic day if Colombia defeats Argentina, according to information obtained by the Colombian radio station W Radio.
The proposed civic day will primarily benefit officials of official and public entities, although private companies and other organizations will be able to decide whether to join in this celebration.
“If Colombia wins on Sunday, we will declare a civic day. I think it is very fair. In addition, this will unite us a lot, since football is uniting Colombians. I am sure that Colombia will win,” said Governor Toro.
Mayor Eder, being cautious and avoiding celebrating too soon, mentioned that they are coordinating with the government to install one or two large screens in the city, allowing fans to enjoy next Sunday’s game.
“We are seeing if we can complete all the paperwork, but we are very happy with this opportunity for unity and patriotism so that we can all feel happy,” he said.
The announcement has generated great excitement among the people of Valle del Cauca, who are eagerly awaiting the Copa América final. The possibility of a civic day has been well received, seen as an opportunity to celebrate in community and strengthen the sense of belonging and national pride.
Football fever has spread among the governors of Colombia’s Caribbean coast, many of whom have promised to declare a civic day in their departments if Colombia wins the final phase of the continent’s most important tournament.
This initiative was initially promoted by Yamil Arana, governor of Bolívar, who, following the match, announced on his account on the social network X: “If Colombia is the Champion, we will declare Monday as a civic day in the department of Bolívar.” Erasmo Zuleta, governor of Córdoba, and Lucy García, governor of Sucre, joined this proposal.
Zuleta expressed his enthusiasm saying: “We are ready! Tomorrow I will send you the decree, we already have it ready because on Sunday we win!! We are going with everything!!!” While García added: “Go for it, Governor! In Sucre we are sure that our Colombian team will win the Copa America. We are going with all the energy and pride for the victory!”
Celebrations intensified in cities such as Cartagena, Sincelejo, Riohacha, Santa Marta and Barranquilla, where motorcycle caravans and celebrations took place near giant screens installed by local governments. These activities not only demonstrated the football fervour, but also set the stage for what is expected to be an exciting final on Sunday, July 14, at 7:00 pm Colombia time, when the national team faces Argentina.
The promise of a civic day has been received with enthusiasm, as it not only recognises the efforts of the national team, but also gives citizens an additional opportunity to celebrate and enjoy the victory. This measure, although it will mainly apply to officials of official and public entities, may also be adopted by private companies at their discretion.Infobae.

Novak Djokovic Eyes Revenge Against Alcaraz in Wimbledon Final – 2024-07-16 01:25:31
IN A repeat of last year’s Wimbledon final, Novak Djokovic will seek revenge once morest Carlos Alcaraz following the Serb beat Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets in their semi-final.
Djokovic came into the tournament with his fitness in doubt following undergoing knee surgery, but he looked sharp once more as he comfortably beat the Italian, 6-4 7-6(2) 6-4, to book his place in Sunday’s final.
Musetti enjoyed a sparkling run to the last four at the All England Club, but the 22-year-old was no match for the second seed, who won the match in two hours and 48 minutes.
The first set featured no fewer than three breaks of serve as both players struggled to find their rhythm early on. Djokovic took two of his four break opportunities as he found the extra pace he needed.
There was no difference between the two in the second set, but the world number 2 once once more raised his game when needed, winning the tie-break with ease.
An early break of serve followed in the third set as Musetti fell further behind, and he was unable to force his way back into the match following that.

After reaching his 37th Grand Slam final, the 37-year-old said: “I’ve said many times that Wimbledon was my childhood dream to play here and win it.
“It’s worth repeating, I was a seven-year-old boy watching bombs fly over my head and dreaming of being on the most important court in the world which is here at Wimbledon.
“I made the Wimbledon trophy out of whatever materials were in the room.

The facts and anecdotes left by the 2024 Copa América final
- Argentina revalidated its title as champion in the midst of a tournament marred by controversy and failures in the organization of the matches
Argentina was consecrated 2024 Copa America champion by winning in the 112th minute once morest Colombia with a goal from Lautaro Martínez.
With intensity, emotion, nostalgia for the imminent retirement of some of the stars, the tournament, held in the United States, came to an end amid chaos and controversy.
This is a summary of the data and anecdotes that emerged from the 2024 Copa América final.
1. In the beginning was chaos
The 2024 Copa América final started one hour and 22 minutes following the scheduled time. Access problems caused by failures in entry logistics of fans at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
The authorities’ resumption of control led to a complete closure of the entrances. This slowed down the entry of the public who had bought their tickets and, consequently, led to crowding and multiple fainting spells as a result of the high temperatures.
The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) decided to delay the start of the final by half an hour, but the deadline for everything to return to normal was extended by almost another hour.
2. The myth of the myth grows
Lionel Messi, at 37 years of age, became the player who has played in the most finals in the history of the Copa América, with five caps in total.
In total, the captain of the Albiceleste reached the final stage of this tournament in 2007, 2015, 2016 and 2021. In addition, he surpassed his former teammate Javier Mascherano, current Argentine Olympic coach, who played in 2004, 2007, 2015 and 2016.
Messi, who had to leave the field in the 65th minute due to an ankle injury, also set a record for games played (39) and victories (24 so far) in this tournament and is, along with Brazilian Zizinho, Pelé’s idol and star in the finals of the 1940s and 1950s, the only player to have scored in six different editions (he only failed in 2011).
3. The first goodbye
Ángel Di María played his last match with the Argentine national team and did so by lifting the championship.
At 36 years of age, Di María announced on November 22, 2023, following beating Brazil in the qualifying phase, that the Copa América would be his last appearance with the Argentine national team.
According to him, he wanted it to be the continental tournament because he considers that winning the title in 2021 was the key to the triumphant cycle that he has followed with coach Lionel Scaloni’s team.
4. Argentina finishes undefeated and Colombia hopes for revenge
The Colombian national team built an unbeaten streak that lasted 28 games and started with a 1-0 defeat to Argentina on February 1, 2022 with a goal from striker Lautaro Martínez, on that occasion.
But 2 years, 5 months, and 13 days later, the same Argentine team put an end to the Colombian team’s sweet period by winning the 48th edition of the 2024 Copa América with a 1-0 victory.
Colombia’s bitter taste might change in 58 days, on September 10, when Argentina and Colombia face each other in the seventh round of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
5. Dibu Martínez and James, gala players
Argentine Emiliano ‘el Dibu’ Martínez was proclaimed the best goalkeeper of the 2024 Copa América, in which he only allowed one goal following six games.
El Dibu was the hero of the team’s passage to the quarter-finals, where he rescued Argentina in the penalty shoot-out once morest Ecuador.
James Rodríguez, captain of the runner-up Colombia team, won the award for best player of the Copa América and received another award for his team for fair play.
Rodríguez said goodbye to the continental tournament with six assists out of the 12 goals he scored in the competition.
6. 70 goals in 32 games and a top scorer with 5
Argentine striker Lautaro el Toro Martínez came on for extra time in the final and in the 112th minute scored his fifth goal in the tournament, which guaranteed him the title of top scorer of the tournament.
The Inter Milan striker won the Golden Boot as the top scorer at the 2024 Copa América.
In the 32 matches of the competition, 70 goals were scored for an average of 2.1 per game.
