Browns offensive tackle Dawand Jones took to social media on Tuesday to share a positive update following surgery to address a broken left fibula he suffered during a recent game.

“Surgery went very well,” Jones expressed in a heartfelt Instagram post. “Shoutout to Browns team doctor Dr. James Voos. Thank you to everybody for your text messages, prayers, and uplifting comments. Thanks, Dawand, Valdez, Big Diesel, Wando, Wann, whatever you call me. I’ll be back. (Heart emoji)”

His injury occurred with just 1:16 left in the second quarter during the Browns’ unfortunate defeat against the New Orleans Saints, as Jones’s leg was rolled up on by teammate and right guard Wyatt Teller while he was engaged in pass protection against a Saints defender.

The Browns made a strategic decision to place Jones on injured reserve Tuesday, ensuring he has time for recovery. In conjunction with this move, the team re-signed tackle Geron Christian from the Los Angeles Rams practice squad. Christian had previously started nine regular-season games and played in the AFC wild card game for the Browns last season, bringing valuable experience back to the squad.

Until his injury, Jones had been making strides as he had recently started at left tackle for the last three games. In his absence during the injury, Germain Ifedi stepped in to take over the left tackle position, showcasing his capability to support the team amidst adversity.

This unfortunate event marks the second consecutive season that Jones has ended his year on injured reserve, having undergone knee surgery last December, a trend he and the organization are keen to break.
